Cleopatra VI |
Cleopatra VI Tryphaena was the wife of
Ptolemy XII. Her origin is strange, but she was presumably his sister or half sister and so daughter of
Ptolemy IX. She evidently stayed in the country when her husband was routed out in 58 BC and ruled collectively with her daughter, Berenice IV. Earlier learners had reckoned that the coruler was a sister of
Berenice IV and looked
Cleopatra V Tryphaena as the mother and Cleopatra VI Tryphaena as the daughter, but these two are now considered as one and the same; the appointment
Cleopatra V has now been assigned to Cleopatra V Selene.
